ORLANDO, Fla. (April. 30, 2021) - The Orlando Pride (1-1-1, 4 points) closes out play in the East Division of the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup on Saturday, May 1, facing the North Carolina Courage (2-1-0, 6 points) at WakeMed Soccer Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
The match will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network, with international viewers able to stream on Twitch. The fixture will mark the Club’s second national broadcast of the tournament, featuring in half of the divisional round CBS Sports Network matches for the competition.
“It’ll be a really tough game. North Carolina is in a transition period with their players, but what they are expecting of themselves still remains the same. The core of the North Carolina Courage remains largely unchanged, with Lynn Williams, Debinha, Jessica McDonald, Denise O Sullivan, Katelyn Rowland, Kristen Hamilton, Meredith Speck, and captain Abby Erceg all returning for their fifth seasons in 2021. The 2019 NWSL Champions did however add some additional pieces to their roster, acquiring former Pride defender Carson Pickett via trade earlier this year as well as former OL Reign goalkeeper Casey Murphy, along with the signings of veteran Irish defender Diane Caldwell and Wales midfielder Angharad James. This past offseason saw former Courage defenders Abby Dahlkemper and Crystal Dunn depart North Carolina, the former joining ex-Courage midfielder Sam Mewis at FA WSL side Manchester City and the latter being traded to Portland.

Overview
This is the opening weekend of the Challenge Cup. Here is a brief overview of how the tournament works.
For this event, the NWSL is split into two divisions East and West. Orlando is in the East with NJ/NY Gotham FC (previously known as Sky Blue FC), Racing Louisville, the North Carolina Courage, and the Washington Spirit. Each team plays each opponent in its group once two at home and two away. The top team from each division will then face off in a final. The final will go straight to penalty kicks if re
