JNF to vote on West Bank land purchases – even at isolated settlements

The management of the Jewish National Fund will vote Sunday on the controversial proposal that would allow it to buy land in the West Bank, even in areas of remote Jewish settlements.
In February the JNF approved a policy change allowing such purchases, which could potentially expand settlements, but said further debate was necessary on the areas where acquisitions might be made. Preferred areas have been chosen, though land will not be bought in the northern West Bank near the cities Nablus and Jenin, where settlements are few.
The proposal to be voted on Sunday adopts the opinion of retired Judge Yosef Alon, who says the JNF can operate in the West Bank, including activities such as forestation and educational initiatives. The heart of the dispute is the clause “in all areas under the jurisdiction of the government of Israel.” ....

On Sunday, the KKL-JNF management (a separate entity from the American based JNF-USA) approved a draft resolution that officially changes the organization’s policy and regulates its activity in Judea and Samaria while expanding the purchase of lands for the benefit of the Jewish settlement.
The resolution adopts the legal opinion written for the organization in September 2019 by Judge Yosef Alon, according to which the JNF can purchase land in Judea and Samaria that “is intended for the settlement of Jews.”

The resolution was passed by a narrow majority of six supporters against five opponents. ....

JNF deputy chair slams organization's plans to formalize settlement expansion

A political battle raged in the leadership of the Jewish National Fund – Keren Kayemet Israel – after its deputy chair said Sunday that he “strongly opposes” his own organization’s plan to formalize purchase of land in the West Bank for the potential expansion of settlements, rebuking the group for getting “hijacked by narrow interests.”
Alon Tal, the deputy chair of JNF, told Haaretz that it was “highly unfortunate that a proposal with such enormous implications for Israel and diplomatic status has been submitted in such a hasty and inappropriate fashion.

The directorate of the Jewish National Fund is expected to meet on Sunday to discuss a proposal that would allow it to purchase land in the West Bank for the potential expansion of settlements.
According to the proposal, the details of which were first published on the Walla news site, the JNF would acquire private land, with priority given to land within settlements, land where construction is expected to face few obstacles, and land adjacent to existing settlements that can be used for their expansion.
