Ex-Texas Judge Punished For Using Slur, Improper Call To DA
Law360 (December 22, 2020, 10:20 PM EST) A former state district judge in San Antonio was issued two separate public sanctions on Tuesday for actions taken while on the bench: one for saying racial slurs against Mexican Americans in front of court employees and another for improperly contacting a district attorney during a trial.
According to the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct, in August 2019 then-Judge Mark Luitjen complained to a bond officer about today s hyper-sensitive environment in regard to what words are acceptable to describe undocumented immigrants or Mexican Americans, noting that what was appropriate yesterday can be scandalous today.
