Local woman continues fight for answers in brother’s death By Patrick Keck - [email protected] PORTSMOUTH Last week’s arraignment of a former Scioto County Sheriff’s corrections officer initiated the court proceedings of the alleged 2020 murder of one county jail inmate. It is also the beginning of what one area woman hopes to be justice. Since June, Karen Skaggs has been asking why, how, and who caused her brother to die following the May 26 altercation. Now with charges read and a not guilty plea from defendant Billy Thompson, answers could become a possibility. “I feel like there’s finally being some justice brought forward,” she said in a Thursday interview. The charges of murder, voluntary manslaughter, and reckless homicide were pleasing to her, but not the fact that Thompson could sign-on to his own bond set at $100,000. “Overall, I am very happy that charges were brought, and somebody is being held accountable for this.” ....
Sonja and Richard Greene plead guilty Sonja and Richard Greene PORTSMOUTH Scioto County Prosecutor, Shane A. Tieman announced that on April 26, 2021 Defendants Sonja and Richard Greene entered guilty pleas to various charges arising from the abuse of three grandchildren, which resulted in one child’s death. Defendant Sonja Greene, age 39, pled guilty to counts one, four and five of the indictment against her, to wit: Aggravated Murder and two counts of Felonious Assault. Defendant Richard Greene, age 46, pled to count one of the Indictment, to wit: Aggravated Murder. The charges arose from an incident in early July 2020. One of the children, A.G., was brought into a local hospital with serious injuries. The child was ultimately flown to a Columbus hospital where she passed away. An investigation was conducted by the New Boston Police Department, with assistance from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation resulted in multiple charges against th ....
Thompson pleads not guilty By Patrick Keck - [email protected] Attorney Joel King represented the State of Ohio in the Tuesday afternoon arraignment. Billy Thompson, a former Scioto County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer, received a sign-on bond of $100,000 during Tuesday’s arraignment from presiding Judge Howard Harcha. PORTSMOUTH As a result of Tuesday’s arraignment, a former Scioto County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer pleaded not guilty and had his bond set at $100,000. At the Scioto County Court of Common Pleas, presiding Judge Howard Harcha heard from the defendant, Billy Thompson, and the State of Ohio serving as the prosecution. ....
