The Pueblo Chieftain This month marks the 10th anniversary of the Pueblo Pro Bono Mental Wellness program. I cannot even grasp this fact. It’s been a whirlwind experience that started with a mere thought by board members of Mental Health America f Pueblo (MHAP) over twenty-five years ago. Their vision was to provide free mental health counseling and therapy to people who couldn’t afford it. Fifteen years later, I was fortunate to be serving on this same board when the idea was once again brought forward. A grant from the head office of Mental Health America of Colorado was written to the state of Colorado based on the need for low-income individuals to have access to quality free mental health services. MHAP was awarded a three year grant with some pretty aggressive goals. Due to the tremendous need, all goals and objectives were met in three short months. ....
