KNOXVILLE, Tenn. A Knoxville man is heading to trial after being indicted and arrested for attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), according to the Department of Justice.
The DOJ release said Benjamin Alan Carpenter, also known as “Abu Hamza,” 31, was arrested on March 24 in Knoxville following the return of a federal grand jury indictment charging him with attempting to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization.  ....

Benjamin Alan Carpenter, also known as “Abu Hamza,” 31, was arrested on March 24, in Knoxville following the return of a federal grand jury indictment charging him with attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization. A detention hearing was held today, April 5, before U.S.
 
Magistrate Judge Debra C.
Poplin. Carpenter remains detained pending the outcome of the detention hearing. Carpenter’s trial is set for June 1, before United States District Judge Katherine A. Crytzer. ....

Author V.M. Burns will discuss “A Tourist’s Guide to Murder,” her sixth book in the popular Mystery Bookshop series, in a live, virtual event hosted by the Lewes Public Library and Browseabout Books at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, via Zoom.
“A Tourist’s Guide to Murder” follows bookshop owner and amateur sleuth Samantha Washington as she travels to London with her grandmother and friends from Shady Acres Retirement Village for the Peabody Mystery Lovers Tour. When the tour company’s owner and a fellow tourist are found dead, it is up to Samantha and the Shady Acres ladies to mix and mingle among their fellow mystery lovers, find a motive and turn up a murderer. ....
