ILLINOIS SUPREME COURT: Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Steven Bost As at-large Judge in First Judicial Circuit

Illinois Supreme Court issued the following announcement on Feb. 17.
Justice David K. Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Steven M.J. Bost as an At-Large Circuit Judge in the First Judicial Circuit.
Mr. Bost is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Brad K. Bleyer effective August 3, 2020. The appointment takes effect on March 1, 2021, and will conclude on December 5, 2022, when the vacancy will be filled by the winner of the November 2022 general election.
“Steven Bost is an impressive public servant who has served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps as a Judge Advocate both as an active duty Marine and now as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves,” Justice Overstreet said. “Besides representing clients for several years in private practice in southern Illinois, he has more recently served as the Chief Public Defender in Jackson County and ha ....

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WJPF) Murphysboro attorney Steven Bost has been appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to be an at-large judge in the First Judicial District.
Bost will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Brad Bleyer. The appointment will take effect March 1, 2021 and end in December of 2022 when the vacancy will be filled by the winner of the November 2022 general election.
Bost has served as the Chief Public Defender in Jackson County since 2019. He’s a graduate of the SIU School of Law.

South court sees 45 percent fewer new cases in 2020 than 2019

UHRICHSVILLE The number of cases filed in the Southern District of Tuscarawas County Court decreased significantly from 2019 to 2020, according to Judge Brad L. Hillyer.
The total number of cases filed for the year was 2,319, a decrease of 1,933 from the 2019 filings, he wrote in his annual report. The drop represents a 45.4 percent decline.
The major factor in this decrease was the COVID-19 pandemic, Hillyer wrote. This led to less travel and significantly less traffic tickets being issued. Also, with people in quarantine more, less criminal activity occurred.
The court saw 73 new cases for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a decrease of 38 from 2019. The 2020 figure represents a 34 percent drop from the number of cases in 2019. ....
