wake-up call. i m christine romans in for carol costello. this morning race officials will begin deciding how they ll investigate a wreck that killed a two are-time indy 500 winner. 33-year-old dan wheldon was one of a record 34 cars on the las vegas track. on lap 12, the unthinkable. cars spinning out of control, bursting into flames, several actually going airborne. three drivers were treated for injuries, wheldon was airlifted to the hospital where he eventually died. the race was canceled. but the drivers did return to cirque tl track five times as a tribute, some of them in tears. dan wheldon s factr in law remembers one of the last times they spoke. i just told him that i just wanted one thing, dan, i told him, i said you need you to win. i didn t say i need you to win, but that would be the birthday present i d like to have from you. he said my car is kind of slow, they re working on it. so hopefully we ll do our best. i said have a safe race. he was supposed ....

ththis is your a.m. wake-up ca. ir ip i m ali velshi fk . let us quickly eat our peas even though it is breakfast. we talk about the debate over the raising of the debt ceiling. if it were a movie, you could call it, dude, where is my compromise? the debate is getting testier and more partisan. president obama told cbs news if lawmakers don t have a deal in place by the august 2nd deadline, holder americans could feel it next month when the social security payments are due. i cannot guarantee those checks go out on august 3rd if we haven t resolved this issue because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it. republican congressman ron paul of texas who is running for president thinks the president is playing the social security card. here is what he said. that just isn t true. because the funds there for social security and these emergencies, the cash flow is good enough for that. if they really needed to, why don t they quit sending the interest ....
