One of the injured in Monday's fatal car crash in Monmouth has died.80-year-old Joy Stephens of Monmouth died Tuesday night in Peoria following the crash along U.S. 34 the afternoon before. She follows her husband, 91-year-old Jack, who was killed in the accident when their vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Shawn Runge. Runge, of Morris, Illinois, had allegedly failed to stop at a red light prior to hitting the passenger side of Stephen's Honda CRV as it turned left on the highway. Joy had previously been Vice-President and Comptroller of Midwest Bank of Western Illinois for 12 years while Jack held various positions at Galesburg Cottage Hospital until 2002. The obituary from McGuire and Davies Funeral Home, a joint funeral service will be held Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Monmouth and visitation will be Friday night at the funeral home.
Monmouth, Ill.- One person was killed and two people were injured Monday in a Warren County crash. According to the Illinois State Police, at about 3:12 PM Monday, July 11th, a 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven by 55-year-old Shawn P. Runge of Morris, Illinois was traveling westbound on US Highway 34 at 6th street in Warren County. For an unknown reason, Runge failed to stop at a stop light and struck the passenger side of another vehicle as it was making a left turn onto 6th street. The passenger of the vehicle, 91-year-old Jack Stephens of Monmouth was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver, 80-year-old Joy Stephens of Monmouth was flown to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. Runge was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and was later cited for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device.
