HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y., May 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ With their initial community choice electricity supply contract expiring June 30 th, nine Hudson Valley Community Power (HVCP) participating municipalities chose to continue providing their residents access to affordable, locally-sourced 100% renewable energy. In July 2019, the Cities of Beacon and Poughkeepsie, Towns of Marbletown and Philipstown, and the Village of Cold Spring began providing residents and small businesses clean electricity as the default option at a fixed rate for two years. Soon after launch, four additional communitiesâthe Town of Clinton, Town of New Paltz, Village of New Paltz, and Town of Red Hookâjoined HVCP. We expect Town of Gardiner, Village of Nelsonville, Town of Rhinebeck, and Town of Saugerties to join the program under the terms of the second electricity supply contract effective July 2021, bringing the number of participating communities to thirteen. Part of Joule s Finger Lakes Community Choice program, the opt-out community solar program will be rolled out to 3,800+ households across the two upstate New York municipalities. Expected to launch this year, this program will be the first opt-out community solar program in the United States. Generate teamed up with 38 Degrees North to acquire from top developers the solar projects in the area that will provide residents 17 million kilowatt hours of solar power for 25 years.
