Award-Winning Antelope Valley Cartoonist Announces Debut Graphic Novel

Award-Winning Antelope Valley Cartoonist Announces Debut Graphic Novel Joshua Kemble, an illustrator and comic book writer from the Antelope Valley, has announced his debut graphic novel “Two Stories: Book One”, now available for order. The novel is a memoir, which covers Kemble’s descent into a mental health crisis as an adult after painful experiences attending a Christian school as a child, and is available for order on Amazon in ebook and printed format. Courtesy of Joshua Kemble “People who suffer from mental illness often feel alone and frustrated because people, especially those in faith communities, rarely share their experiences with subjects like suicide, panic disorder, and caregiving in relationships,” explained Kemble. “If we are dishonest about what that fight looks like, we do a disservice to the many people in our communities who are suffering and don’t speak of these things for fear of social shaming.”

Cal State Long Beach Grad Publishes Graphic Novel

Like many kids, Joshua Kemble spent his elementary school years making sketches on lined notebook paper — but his were different. The son of an award-winning graphic designer dad and an English major mom, Kemble grew up with a knack for drawing and a love for books. He described comics as the “perfect marriage of visual and narrative storytelling” and dreamed of publishing his own comic book one day. Inspired by the talents of David Hadlock and Robin Richesson, Kemble pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Cal State Long Beach. In the CSULB Illustration Program, he acquired technical and conceptual communication skills as well as a strong work ethic. He also developed a love for George’s Greek Café, Alex’s Bar, Acres of Books, and the lights of the Queen Mary reflected on the water at night.
