Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone’s anger toward Diego Sanchez has dissipated, but there’s residual fury in there.
It’s Alex Morono, Cerrone said, who now must pay.
“I still have that malicious intent on hurting this (expletive) because I’ve still got the Diego fire,” Edgewood’s Cerrone said this week in an interview with mmajunkie.com. “So I’m planning every punch and every kick to be lethal, and I don’t want the kid to make it out of the first round.” ....

"Cowboy" Cerrone feels bad for Diego Sanchez

Donald Cerrone is in one of the most odd positions he has been in in his career.
Initially scheduled to fight Diego Sanchez, all hell broke loose when Sanchez was spontaneously taken off the May 8 card and subsequently released from the UFC as a result of his head coach and manager Josh Fabia after the latter apparently disgruntled the UFC brass.
Cerrone now faces Alex Morono in a short notice welterweight bout.
Despite Cerrone having a new opponent in Morono, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Anthony Pettis in December 2020, a significant amount of attention is still on his previously scheduled opponent Sanchez and his coach and manager Fabia since Sanchez’s release and the interviews that came after that. ....

In an emotional interview on Tuesday with MMA Today on SiriusXM’s Fight Nation, Sanchez accused the UFC of conspiring against him and his longtime coach Josh Fabia, talking almost uninterrupted for more than 40 minutes until hosts R.J. Clifford and Anthony Smith were forced to end the segment.
“I’m going to tell you guys frankly right now, I’m fearful for my motherf cking life,” Sanchez said. “I’m fearful that this company, this billion-dollar company monopoly, worldwide, is going to come after me. Something might happen to me in two years. Maybe in a couple years. Maybe I wreck my truck. Maybe I, ‘Oh, Diego overdosed, some suicide sh t.’ I don’t know. Last week, it was revealed that the UFC had cut Sanchez after a back-and-forth email exchange with the promotion’s lawyer Hunter Campbell. Sanchez and Fabia were requesting medical documents and the UFC believed that it was the right call to release him instead. Later on, there was a video leaked of an argument between Fabia and the UFC production team on Fight Island. Fitzgerald himself was in the room for it and speaking to John Hyon Ko of South China Morning Post, he gave his thoughts on the situation. ....

“One of the sad things that happens, not just in fighting but in sports, and I want you to quote me on this, are these creepy weirdos who come from God knows where and leech onto fighters or athletes,” he said. “They never do any good for them. Somehow, this creep got into Diego’s life and has been controlling him.”
Fellow TUF alumni and longtime friend / training partner Rashad Evans apparently feels the same way. He reached out to Diego over Instagram begging Sanchez to re-evaluate his relationship with Fabia.

“You messed around and let that con artist Josh Fabia use you to try and get a lawsuit against the UFC,” Evans wrote. “They sensed it because it was obvious that your manager / coach was about to get litigious.
