Representation matters: Let s talk about Rutherford Falls Nora Mabie, Great Falls Tribune © Colleen Hayes, Peacock via AP This image released by Peacock shows Ed Helms as Nathan Rutherford, left, and Jana Schmieding as Reagan Wells in a scene from the comedy series Rutherford Falls. Rutherford Falls  is the first show to have a Native American showrunner (Sierra Teller Ornelas); it also has five Indigenous writers and many Indigenous actors. The first three episodes are available for free on Peacock.  The sitcom follows Nathan Rutherford (Ed Helms), a white man who obsesses over his family history and legacy in Rutherford Falls, the town that bears his namesake. But the town s history is more complex - and far darker - than Nathan admits.

'Rutherford Falls': Jana Schmieding on Reagan's Future With Nathan and Josh

And, of course, her cultural center Jennifer Maas | April 23, 2021 @ 4:10 PM Photo by: Colleen Hayes/Peacock (Warning: This post contains spoilers through the Season 1 finale of Peacock’s “Rutherford Falls.”) The last few minutes of the 10th and final episode of Peacock’s “Rutherford Falls” Season 1 take viewers through a real roller coaster of closure and uncertainty, as best friends Reagan Wells (Jana Schmieding) and Nathan Rutherford (Ed Helms) finally make up. Nathan, whose brain is basically broken after finding out he’s not a Rutherford, but a D’Angelo, apologizes to Reagan for only thinking of himself and his desires to uphold his legacy over hers to uphold her Native community’s. And she tells him she is far from fully “getting it” as he thinks she does, and that no one is ever fully in the right over someone else.

does do that sometimes.” “Like the, ‘Let me just break it down for you, because what you think this is is completely different than what it actually is, ” she continued. “We spend a lot of time, the Native writers especially, crafting that and talking about the fact that a lot of Native people are very critical of capitalism, and rightfully so. I think there are a lot of very entrepreneurial Native people. We’re not a monolith. Even within a tribe, there’s so many different types of Native people. One of the writers, Tazbah Chavez, brought up the concept of tribal capitalism and [how] that is different than traditional capitalism. And that led to this really interesting conversation.”
