Passing through my senior years, I find my legs progressively less reliable. I sometimes wind up as an inglorious heap on the ground. I see some things more clearly from this viewpoint. Every time I have fallen, at least two strangers from the people around me have come to my side to help me up. The last time, in front of a post office, two young smiling people not only lifted me to my feet but assured me that I am not alone.
Christians are celebrating the coming of Christ. But there are a great many people who demonstrate that He has been here already. So many put their own goals temporarily aside as they give their time, strength, and treasure to help others. So, I am thankful not only for all the folks who have helped me, but also for all those who help others, serve as unpaid volunteers for youth athletics, town boards and commissions, food banks, fuel assistance, refugee relocations, and volunteers at hospitals and charitable organizations
