MPO Kicks Off With A Week Long Online Festival With A Star-Studded Line Up

As from today, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra kicks off with a week-long online festival featuring five internationally renowned musicians.

This festival will feature Gautier Capuçon, who is known at France’s ”true 21st century ambassador for the cello”. Teenage vortuoso violinist Daniel Lozakovich will be performing as well.

The programmed prepared by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be highlighting the exceptional skills these talents have.

Also joining the star-studded line-up are the violinist Alena Baeva, the Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko and Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniță. ....

Star-studded line-up as EUFSC collaborate with MPO for online festival

Five internationally renowned musicians will be joined by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) for a week-long online festival that kicks off today Monday, May 24.
Gautier Capuçon, known as France s “true 21st century ambassador for the cello”, and teenage virtuoso violinist Daniel Lozakovich will be performing alongside the MPO in a programme which highlights the exceptional skill of these classical music talents.
Russian violinist Alena Baeva, Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko and Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniță are also among the star-studded line-up for a festival organised in collaboration with the European Foundation for Support of Culture (EUFSC)
Sharing the same values to be a catalyst for music and culture, especially in these difficult times, the MPO and EUFSC bring music directly to audiences’ homes in these full-scale online concerts spread over a week as part of the Malta International Music Festival starting off tonight. ....

Gaulitana festival kicks off on Wednesday

The rescheduled hybrid 14th edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music kicks off on Wednesday (May 19) with the first of the festival’s virtual projects, Virtually a Cappella.
The four-part series will feature short solo unaccompanied recitals by four local instrumentalists recorded in lesser-known charming sacred spaces around Gozo.
Harpist Caroline Calleja will perform at the Santa Luċija church, violinist Pierre Louis Attard at Qala’s Kuncizzjoni church, cellist Simon Abdilla Joslin at Xewkija’s Museum of Sculpture (old church), and saxophonist Philip Attard at Għarb’s Taż-Żejt church.
An added allure is the inclusion of local compositions, including some rarely performed works by Charles Camilleri and Joseph Vella, and others by contemporary composers Christopher Muscat and Pierre Louis Attard. ....

Moviment Graffitti is strongly objecting to the proposal for the construction of a block of 125 apartments just 300 metres from the cliff edge in Sannat, Gozo. The block, proposed by Gozitan construction magnate Joseph Portelli, lists known Portelli partners Mark Agius (Ta’ Dirjanu), Samuel Saliba and Joseph Vella as applicants for the blocks.
In a statement, the organisation highlighted how three separate applications (PA/02035/2, PA/02087/21 and PA/05048/20) have been filed in an attempt to avoid the scrutiny necessary for a single massive development. In fact, one of these permits on Triq ta Bebunaq and Triq it-Tempju tal-Imramma has already been issued by the PA, in what the group has described as a tried-and-tested tactic that allows developers to obtain ....
