BENSALEM, Pa. For the latter portion of February this was a relatively quiet week. Usually, the boys’ basketball state playoffs are cranking or about to in some states. Last week, state champions were crowned in Virginia while Florida is at the regional stage, Texas tips this week with the bi-district playoffs, Georgia’s 32-team state brackets are stoked and Indiana starts with the four classifications of sectionals.
In less than a month, a majority of the states and teams from the Blue Star Media Elite 25 boys’ rankings will finish their seasons. The only teams that will be playing for keeps of the big prize are teams that participate in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference. One recruit lost, another gained.
That was the result for Michigan State coach Mel Tucker on Wednesday, the first day of the traditional signing period for the 2021 class.
Rayshaun Benny, a four-star defensive tackle from Oak Park High School, flipped his commitment from Michigan State and signed with Michigan on Wednesday. Three hours later, Keon Coleman, a three-star wide receiver from Opelousas Catholic School in Louisiana, signed with the Spartans.

One of Michigan State’s highest ranked-commits in the 2021 class isn’t headed to East Lansing.
Audric Estime, a four-star running back from St. Joseph Regional High School in New Jersey, flipped and signed with Notre Dame on Friday, the last day of the early signing period. He announced the news via Twitter. Estime committed to Michigan State on Sept. 13 but had a huge senior season and picked up an offer from Notre Dame on Monday.

Michigan State just made a key addition on the final day of the early signing period.
Geno VanDeMark, a three-star offensive lineman from St. Joseph Regional High School in New Jersey, signed with the Spartans’ 2021 class on Friday.
Michigan State signed 16 players on Wednesday – the first day of the early signing period – and inked long snapper Hank Pepper on Thursday before VanDeMark’s addition.

Mel Tucker is on the verge of landing his first recruiting class as Michigan State’s coach.
Michigan State’s class is ranked 42 in the nation by 247Sports Composite and there were 19 commits. However Australian punter Mark Vassett recently deleted his May commitment tweet and didn’t respond to a message from MLive seeking comment about his status with the class.
