Lt. Gov. McKee announces members of COVID-19 advisory group

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee, expected to take over as governor if Gina Raimondo is confirmed as President Joe Biden’s commerce secretary, on Wednesday unveiled the members of a 20-member panel that would advise him on the state’s continued response to the coronavirus pandemic, including vaccination efforts.
The COVID-19 Advisory Group includes medical professionals, lawmakers, municipal and community leaders, and others, and is co-chaired by Dr. John Stoukides, chief of the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Roger Williams Medical Center, and Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena, a nurse.
Who the list doesn’t include may be as newsworthy as who McKee tapped.
The list does however includes a number of small business owners.

Nor does the list include any representatives of the signature companies that Governor Gina Raimondo attracted to the state Johnson & Johnson, General Electric or others.
Perhaps the most surprising is that the list does not include any senior members of Raimondo’s staff or cabinet. GoLocal has learned that of Raimondo s personal staff of 40, fewer than ten have voiced an interest in staying with McKee.

McKee has been contacted by at least 10 people seeking appointment to the $122,740-a-year job that comes with very few statutory responsibilities, but a State House office, a $1,145,231 budget and seven staffers.
His plan: to appoint a screening committee that includes Johnston Mayor
Joseph Polisena to wade through the resumés, do interviews and make recommendations.
