Updated 1/26/2021 1:55 PM The race for Aurora alderman-at-large is now a three-person competition, as the Aurora Electoral Board removed candidate Joseph Grisson III from the ballot Tuesday morning. The board ruled Grisson did not have enough valid signatures on his nominating petitions, after removing the signatures of people who were not registered to vote at the address they listed on the petition.
Grisson s attorney, Bonnie Kunkel, had argued at previous hearings the signatures should be counted as valid, because the people still lived in Aurora, albeit elsewhere, and Grisson is seeking the at-large seat. But board member Mayor Richard Irvin said Tuesday state law mandates petition signers must be registered at the address they provide. ....
Updated 1/11/2021 6:05 PM The Aurora Electoral Board refused Monday to remove one of the candidates for the alderman-at-large position from the April 6 ballot. The board decided, 3-0, that two objectors to Ron Woerman s candidacy did not provide sufficient evidence to prove Woerman did not meet the city s residency requirement.
Fellow candidate Raymond Hull, and resident Roy Runaner, had alleged Woerman does not live in the city, and will not have lived in Aurora for the required one year, should he be elected in April. Woerman testified Friday he moved from Oswego to a one-bedroom apartment in Aurora on Feb. 1, 2020. He told the board he estimated he spent about 40% of his nights there, and the other 60% at the Oswego house where his wife and children live. ....
Aurora alderman candidate seeks to have 2 others bounced from ballot
Updated 1/7/2021 7:47 PM A candidate for the Aurora alderman-at-large position is trying to get two opposing candidates removed from the ballot, including one he alleges doesn t live in the city. Raymond Hull, who is running for the seat, and resident Roy Rumaner say candidate Ron Woerman doesn t meet a requirement that he live in the city at least one year before being elected. The election is April 6.
At an electoral board hearing Tuesday, Woerman testified that on Feb. 1, 2020, he leased a one-bedroom apartment on Chesapeake Drive in Aurora. Woerman said he used to live in Aurora until about 15 years ago, when he moved to Oswego. He said he began considering running for Aurora alderman in fall 2019, and that he and his wife started looking for a house to buy in Aurora. ....
