The new year of violence began with the shooting outside Club Set in the 2900 block of Travis Street when those uniformed Harris County deputies were working extra jobs. Investigators said 25-year-old Joseph Anthony Gonzalez confronted the deputies with a gun during a fight in the parking lot and shot all three of them. HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) The owner of the Midtown nightclub where three deputies were shot over the weekend has been charged. Nathan Gerk, who is the owner of Club Set on Travis Street, is being charged with falsifying statements on an alcohol license. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said Club Set applied for a restaurant permit in September that would require the business to make 51% of its profits from food sales. Nearly 650 establishments in Harris County, and more than 3,000 statewide, have applied for the license to be able to remain open while bars and clubs are ordered to stay closed. ....

At around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, a man walked out of the BB&T Bank on Newtown Yardley Road and approached several vehicles that were stopped at a red light on the Newtown Bypass, according to police. The man tried to open the driver s side door of one of the vehicles, but the female driver was able to accelerate through the intersection. He then tried breaking into other vehicles, prompting a dump truck driver who was nearby to pull over to call 911 and confront the man. Newtown Township and Lower Makefield police officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft on Jan. 5, around 10:50 p.m, at the intersection of the Newtown Bypass and Lindenhurst Road, authorities said. The suspect was later identified as Joseph Anthony Gonzalez, police said. Suspect s mother shot to death, 3 deputies wounded in nightclub parking lot shooting KTRK Share: It happened around 2:20 a.m. outside the Set Nightclub in the 2900 block of Travis Street. Deputies working extra jobs at the club responded to a fight in the parking lot when 25-year-old Joseph Anthony Gonzalez opened fire, according to Houston Police. One deputy simultaneously fired back at the suspect, striking him, police said. A woman, later identified in court documents as Gonzalez s mother, was hit in the leg and taken to Ben Taub Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Court documents state that Gonzalez shot and killed his mother, but family members dispute that. Houston police say the investigation into her death is still ongoing. ....
