SunStar + January 13, 2021 GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson said the mayors in Negros Occidental want the borders with Negros Oriental to remain closed amid the threat of coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Lacson, in a press conference Wednesday, January 13, said the mayors were concerned that the Covid-19 cases on the other side of the island is higher than those in Occidental. Lacson said he got the consensus of the mayors Wednesday during their virtual meeting and that they would immediately inform the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental about the matter. As of January 12, Negros Oriental has 204 active cases as compared to Negros Occidental with only 104 cases as of January 11. ....
SunStar + January 13, 2021 GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson said Negros Occidental mayors are amenable to the transfer of the Provincial Capitol building to Talisay City. There was no negative reaction and all the mayors favor the transfer, Lacson said. In fact, the Association of Chief Executives (ACE)-Negros will pass a resolution supporting the move to transfer the Capitol, Lacson said after meeting with the mayors Wednesday, January 13. Lacson also clarified that only the Capitol building will be transferred but Bacolod City will remain as the capital city of the province. The Capitol building to be built in Talisay City will have the same cost amounting to more than P900, which was already bidded and awarded to Dynamic Builders as the contractor during the previous administration. ....
SunStar + December 15, 2020 GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday, December 15, that the Provincial Government is studying the possibility of relocating the offices of the Capitol to a property in Talisay City. On Monday, December 14, Capitol consultant Alfredo Benitez said the plans of moving the seat of the Provincial Government to neighboring Bacolod City is in its early stage. It is hard for the seat of the Provincial Government to be located in a jurisdiction it does not control, he said. Bacolod is a highly urbanized city that is not under the jurisdiction of the Negros Occidental Provincial Government. The governor said the Capitol owns a 25-hectare property in Talisay City. ....
