More than three years after fatally shooting his then-girlfriend s father outside a Northeast Side residence, a Columbus man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison.
Jordyn D. Preston, 21, of the East Side, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter with a gun specification for the Dec. 10, 2017, death of 54-year-old Van A. Johnson.
The sentence, imposed by Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Dan Hawkins, was recommended by prosecuting and defense attorneys as part of a plea agreement. The judge granted Preston more than 500 days of credit for the time he has spent in jail since his arrest.
Preston was 18 at the time of the incident, which occurred outside the victim s home in the 2400 block of Ottawa Drive.
