Graves' FRYSC awarded $100,000 grant


A Graves County Schools program was awarded a substantial grant, a school official said at Thursday’s board of education meeting.
Superintendent Matthew Madding congratulated the Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) for being awarded the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) to FRYSC grant.
Madding said it was a “two year grant worth $100,000 that will be used for student mental health, social and emotional well being, and students in every one of our schools will benefit from that grant. So we’re very excited about that.”
Madding also addressed critical race theory, as he had received questions regarding the academic concept that racism isn’t just individual or group bias but a bias embedded in social, political and judicial systems, and whether it would be taught in the Graves County School District. He stated that it does not appear in the Kentucky Academic Standards and that the district’s site based decision ....

Lowes parents turn out for school board meeting


LOWES — The Graves County Board of Education opened its meeting Thursday to a crowd of Lowes community members, who turned out in support of their local elementary school.
The community’s families appeared in droves to ask the board to consider all options before deciding whether to close the ailing elementary school and spread its student body to other schools in the district.
Jamie Sears Rawlings led the charge, saying many of the families are considering enrolling their children in McCracken County should Lowes Elementary ultimately close its doors.
“What I’d like to say is that you guys have all personally promised the county and the Lowes community, really many times, that we would get a new school.
