Arcata Presbyterian Church will present a special service in the Mardi Gras spirit Sunday featuring a Dixieland band. Fred Tempas and the Humboldt All Stars band will provide accompaniment to the 11 a.m. worship service. The band will lead church-goers in singing classic hymns, and will end with “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Traditionally, Lent is a season of spiritual preparation during the 40 days before Easter. Part of that preparation involves deliberate self-denial. The Dixieland service offers a chance to celebrate before people turn inward and get themselves into shape spiritually for Easter. Pictured are band members Fred Tempas, Randy Carrico, Jonathan Claasen, Michael McClimon, George Epperson and Tim Theiss.
