After more than a decade of meticulous planning with his team, it was Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt who was crowned the men’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Triathlon Champion on Monday morning on Odaiba Bay, delivering one of the most gutsy runs possible to take the tape with a roar, at the end of a truly epic battle of wills.
For much of the run, Great Britain’s Alex Yee looked like he might just continue his remarkable rise all the way to the top of the triathlon tree, only for the inimitable Norwegian to put in one final and ultimately decisive charge, New Zealand’s 23-year-old Hayden Wilde hanging tough for a hard-earned bronze. ....

Sommerspiele in Tokio: Norweger Blummenfelt Triathlon-Olympiasieger

Tokio - Kristian Blummenfelt hat die britische Dominanz bei Sommerspielen durchbrochen und ist Olympiasieger im Triathlon.
Der Norweger gewann im Odaiba Marine Park von Tokio mit elf Sekunden Vorsprung vor dem Briten Alex Yee, dessen Landsmann Alistair Brownlee in London und Rio triumphiert hatte. Bronze sicherte sich der Neuseeländer Hayden Wilde. Die deutschen Starter Jonas Schomburg und Justus Nieschlag belegten die Plätze 38 und 40.
Dabei war Schomburg auf der Radstrecke von einem Sturz ausgebremst worden. Vor mir war eine Welle, ich konnte nicht mehr ausweichen und bin in die Gitter geknallt. Dadurch habe ich den Anschluss verloren. Ich hoffe, die Verletzungen sind nicht zu schlimm , sagte Schomburg. Ich habe dann versucht, den olympischen Geist hochzuhalten und das Rennen vernünftig zu beenden. Auf der Laufstrecke habe ich alles rausgehauen. ....
