MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A beautiful spring day in downtown Memphis had tourists flocking to Beale Street. Some are roaming freely without masks, others a bit more cautious.
This comes one day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks outdoors or in most indoor settings, with the exception of hospitals, doctors offices, nursing homes, prisons, and public transportation.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Thursday marks the first day kids ages 12 through 15 can get vaccinated in Shelby County.
“That is a huge milestone that adds about 50,000 more eligible people to the pool that could be vaccinated,” said City of Memphis Chief Operating Officer, Doug McGowen.
The FDA gave the Pfizer vaccine emergency use authorization Monday, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) board also recommending the vaccine for those 12 through 15 Wednesday. ....

As research into genetic causes of disease began to grow, Le Bonheur Pediatrician-in- Chief Jon McCullers, MD, knew it was time to start building a pediatric DNA biorepository. So in 2015, Le Bonheur s Children s Foundation Research Institute (CFRI) created the Biorepository and Integrative Genomics (BIG) Initiative and began collecting DNA samples from hospitalized children at Le Bonheur with the consent of their parents. We knew then that changes in genes impact health and cause disease.
We began collecting DNA samples in the hope that at some point we would be able to sequence the DNA and use it for research, said McCullers. Five years and more than 10,000 DNA samples later, this dream is becoming a reality.
