Search ‘As Much As We Can, As Fast As We Can:’ PIH Teams Racing to Boost Oxygen Supplies Amid Global Shortages Lockdowns, national export bans, global surges in demand, shipping woes and flight delays are just some of the challenges PIH teams have faced over the past year, to provide lifesaving support to patients and health systems Posted on May 17, 2021 Oxygen tanks line a wall at PIH-supported Koidu Government Hospital in Kono District, Sierra Leone. The plant, introduced by PIH, fills lifesaving oxygen canisters for the emergency ward, surgical ward, and for patients suffering from respiratory symptoms, including from COVID-19. Koidu Government Hospital is the only secondary care facility serving Kono s 500,000 people. PIH has raced over the past year to boost oxygen supplies at supported facilities around the world.
