Parish Council object to 54-home development on greenfield land
The variety of objections were raised at the meeting, and the Isle of Wight MP explained how he and the council were currently fighting national planning policies
A packed meeting of the Niton and Whitwell Parish Council came out against plans to build 54 houses on a greenfield.
The planning committee of the parish council unanimously voted to object to the application, submitted by Tallulah Estates, for the village’s Ladyacre Farm.
The landowner, who spoke at the meeting, said they were developing the land to use the money to make improvements to the farm which would benefit their children and grandchildren.

Planning permission is being sought for a three-bed bungalow on the site of a pottery in Niton High Street. A former butchers shop, the building is currently the home of Tregear Pottery, which has just reopened after a combination of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions and illness. The pottery, which houses a workshop and retail outlet, has become part of Niton life in the nine years it has operated, forging links with the village primary school and offering tuition and tours. Work by potter Neil Tregear sells widely throughout Britain and further afield. Objections to the planning application have been lodged on the Isle of Wight Council s website, with those against the plans calling the business well respected and thriving and arguing that its location at the centre of the village [is in] an area that needs to retain commercial businesses.
