La Jolla News Nuggets: Fox rescue, Innovation Center, Windansea cleanup, graffiti, more

La Jolla residents have spotted some not so sly foxes in and around their yards recently, with some people taking to social media to post photos and videos of the creatures, both solo and in groups called skulks.
The Humane Society rescued the fox, which was taken to the Bahde Wildlife Center in San Diego. She had an abnormal gait, using both hind legs in unison and effectively bunny-hopping, said spokeswoman Nina Thompson.
Wildlife veterinarians were worried the animal was suffering from hip dysplasia or neosporosis, but results from lab work and radiographs came back normal.
The fox was transferred to the Ramona Wildlife Center for more space in a larger enclosure and additional observation. ....

The Finance & Capital Strategies Committee of the University of California Board of Regents voted unanimously to approve the design of UC San Diego’s proposed La Jolla Innovation Center, which some local opponents have described as “ominous and monolithic” and “appallingly bad.”
The committee took the vote May 12 in an open session held virtually as part of the regents’ three-day meeting. The full Board of Regents voted unanimously May 13 to adopt the committee’s recommendation. ....

A return of the UCSD Community Advisory Group? La Jolla planners consider it for more input on projects

The Innovation Center is a proposed seven-story building at the intersection of Villa La Jolla Drive and La Jolla Village Drive at the former site of Rock Bottom Brewery. It would include five levels of UCSD Health Sciences and Extension uses, two levels of above-grade parking and two levels of subterranean parking. It is planned to have about 110,000 square feet of office and educational space, a ground-floor cafe accessible to the public and approximately 275 parking spaces.

I have read the recent proposal for the Innovation Center as described in the
I am utterly dismayed that such a large and aesthetically incongruous building is being put forward. Once again, the university aggressively pushes for inappropriate development, turning a deaf ear to the local community and businesses, and again ignores the community’s coastal height limitation. Moreover, this is an extremely trafficked and congested area; a building such as this is the very last thing the local residential and business communities need or want.
Put succinctly, wrong building, wrong place, wrong priorities. For once, consider the local community and environs. Please respect our coastal height limitations. At the very least, find a site more suitable for such an edifice one in the interior of the campus, as opposed to on the perimeter of or outside the university’s boundaries. ....
