9/9/2023 – Michigan 35, UNLV 7 – 2-0 I thought about copying and pasting last week's column and seeing if anyone noticed. It would have various references to ECU instead of UNLV, but acronyms are acronyms and maybe it would slide by. The accounting of JJ McCarthy's incompletions would be off by one and factually inaccurate, sure. I was banking on the nuclear glow coming off of McCarthy's arm obliterating all detail and leaving nothing but a crater of Buddhism (but fun!). I could have gotten away with it, I'm sure. The pattern of this game was the pattern of the other game: big long Michigan drives on which some disappointing run plays are washed away in a torrent of third and medium conversions. JJ McCarthy's eyes glow white and he starts levitating. The opposition can do nothing on the interior and cannot pass protect and is only able to eke out a first down or two. Michigan irritatingly turns it over on downs due to over-reliance on a dive play. They lose ....
Essentials WHAT #2 Michigan (12-0) vs Purdue (8-4) WHERE TicketIQ Stadium Indianapolis, IN WHEN 8:17 Eastern THE LINE M –16.5 TELEVISION FOX (Johnson/Klatt) TICKETS From $48. WEATHER nope Overview First off: Aidan O'Connell's brother died this week. So did Patrick Barron's brother. Please keep them in your thoughts. Well hey it's the Big Ten Championship Game again. This time Michigan draws Purdue after the West division went 100% ACC Coastal. First it was Illinois's to lose; they lost it. Then it was Iowa's; they lost it. Purdue managed to not blow it against Indiana and now shows up for the traditional ritual execution at 8-4 and unranked. Purdue embarked on an almost nonstop parade of nailbiters this season. Seven of their twelve games were one-score affairs, and while you could say "hey, they almost beat Penn State" that comes with a "hey, they almost lost to FAU" response. The scariest Purdue thing may be their opponent invari ....
Essentials WHAT #3 Michigan (11-0) vs #2 Ohio State (11-0) WHERE Ohio Stadium Columbus, OH WHEN Noon Eastern THE LINE M +7.5 TELEVISION FOX (Johnson/Klatt) TICKETS From $464. WEATHER sunny, 0% chance of rain minimal wind around 50 degrees Overview Ohio State is a small school in Hamilton, Missouri, most famous for producing the guy who invented jars with lids that pop up if they have botulism inside them. They have a proud athletic tradition in the NAIA mostly focused on archery, darts, and other games where projectiles are whizzed at a rapid pace towards targets. Once they claimed that Billy the Kid was an alum, gaining brief notoriety for the ridiculousness of this claim. It even resulted in a blurb in the New York Times, the first and only time Ohio State has been mentioned in media outside of the sleepy Missouri town in which the Botulism Preventers call home. It is a misconception that Ohio State is located in the state of Ohio, which does not exist. [After THE JUMP: well, Them ....
Essentials WHAT #5 Michigan (6-0) vs #10 Penn State(5-0) WHERE Michigan Stadium Ann Arbor, MI WHEN Noon Eastern THE LINE M –7 TELEVISION FOX (Johnson/Klatt) TICKETS From $155. WEATHER low 50s, partly cloudy 0% chance of rain 15 mph wind Overview Penn State's had a successful, but weird, year thus far. They opened up with a road win at Purdue in which Sean Clifford looked like the broken down version of himself not a good sign in week one before an 80-yard game winning touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. That was a true coinflip; PSU had a 51% win expectancy according to the numbers guys. A walkover of Ohio was followed by Penn State going into Jordan-Hare and stomping Auburn 41-12, which looks like a hell of a statement until you look at Auburn's season. CMU (currently 1-5) was up next; that game was dead even on yardage and the Chips were in it until they gave away a touchdown by muffing a punt at their own seven. Finally, PSU squeezed by Northwestern 17-7 in a ....
