St. Johns County says no plans to tap wastewater for drinking water


Expanding the use of wastewater in Florida to boost drinking water supplies is gaining support in the state Legislature. 
St. Johns County officials said that practice is not likely to happen here soon, but the county is using treated wastewater ― that which comes out of toilets and sinks ― for irrigation instead of using drinking water for those purposes.
Wastewater can be reused once it is treated to a safe level, and technology exists to treat wastewater to a level safe for drinking.
House Bill 263, filed by Rep. Randy Maggard, and SB 64, introduced by Sen. Ben Albritton, would add requirements for cutting down on discharge from wastewater facilities and encourage the use of treated wastewater to supplement drinking water supplies ― among other things.  ....

The City of St. Augustine and St. Johns County Utilities will hold a free recycling event from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at two locations: 25 W. Castillo Drive (Francis Field downtown) and at 840 W. 16th St. on Anastasia Island. 
Old electronics, including cellphones, VCRs, DVD players, game systems and tablets, will be among the recyclable items. Other electronic devices, including computers and printers, will also be accepted. 
Throughout the year, the City of St. Augustine accepts all recyclable materials daily during regular business hours at the Solid Waste Facility and at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, at 601/501 Riberia St. (respectively). St. Johns County Anastasia Island Wastewater Treatment Facility accepts only used cooking oil year-round at 860 West 16th St. ....
