And were looking at the ways in which the black Freedom Movement raised the issues of poverty, and of racial disadvantage. Really to a level of national attention, and National Action that we havent really seen at any time since. So i want to start just by well, first i should lead you through the outline quickly. Well talk about the ways in which americans at the time thought about black poverty. How did they interpret it. What causes did they think about. And then, what solutions, therefore, did they turn to. So well talk about designing a war on poverty. The choices that the federal government made when the Johnson Administration announced that it was going to wage a war on poverty.
