do so now, because they re putting people s lives at risk. reporter: we ve made seven attempts with emails and phone calls over the past five days to reach lead pastor mike mcclure for comment before showing up in person to knock on the door. we later spoke to two staffers who told abc7 news pastor mcclure is out of town tonight for christmas eve and the rest of the week. cavalry chapel san jose is facing a slew of violations, some of which are posted on their door after repeatedly hosting indoor service since august. pastor mcclure has previously said he has no intention to shut down his service, and he is even willing to go to jail for it. we will continue to be active in doing so. there are real consequences. reporter: those consequences aren t cheap. william says aside from legal battles, the church faces more than a million dollars in administrative fines. so far none have been paid. we re not going anywhere. then the fines will be collected and they will pay.
what some officers are accused of doing and how the police chief is responding tonight. but first, help is on the way. the new covid testing method that could speed things up. tonight there is an urgency to clear the backlog of covid-19 tests as people are sometimes waiting more than week for results. so the fda is now giving the green light to major testing companies to use a new technique to speed up the process. nbc bay area s ian cull explains. reporter: in the beginning, covid testing was scarce. then it ramped up. but now the time to get results is backed up so much, some people are waiting more than a week to find out if they have it. got tested 11 days ago. reporter: christine hoffman s son just went back to preschool. her husband is an essential worker in san jose. so just to be safe, she got tested for covid-19 july 18th. this is my first test and i have g and his first test a few weeks ago, it took ten days for him to get results. her story is becom
and i m frank somerville. church leaders don t think the city of berkeley is taking the attempted arson seriously enough. a neighbor saw the person set the fire on university avenue. that neighbor rushed to put it out and says it was clearly intentional. new at 10:00, ktvu s amber lee with what else we have learned about this attempted arson at the church. reporter: we are in the church parking lot. this is the backside of the building. you can see the damage to the wall. the pastor tells me he suspects the attack was racially motivated. somebody was trying to burn the building down. reporter: the building is the way church on university avenue in berkeley. church leaders tell me they hung a black lives matter banner up front tuesday afternoon. less than 12 hours later, around 12:30 wednesday morning, someone deliberately set a fire behind the church damaging the wall, the asphalt and two garbage cans. we are only trying to show love and solidarity and do the right
