South Africa’s planned harmful gas limits ‘off target’ Civil society organisations have received South Africa’s newly proposed greenhouse gas reduction targets with little enthusiasm. The lower end of the emissions range remains the same as the nationally determined contributions (NDC) set in 2015. The targets put out for public consultations will form part of South Africa’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the UN climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland in November. The United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, will be the first time that the Paris Agreement signatories gather to recommit to keeping global warming at less than 1.5°C higher than pre-industrial levels through emission reductions. ....
