A truck driver involved in a crash on the Bruce Highway near Gympie blew more than three times the limit when tested at the scene, Gympie Magistrates Court heard on Thursday.
Anthony John Towells, 53, had a blood alcohol content of 0.175 when he was breath tested by police on April 30, 2021.
The court heard Towells, who was driving a heavy vehicle to pick up a piece of machinery for his job, became involved in the crash with a rental removal truck after its driver tried to overtake his vehicle. ....

Some of Warwick area s best and brightest have been recognised with prestigious Australia Day Awards, acknowledging their outstanding service to the community.
Allora young gun Bailey Harm was named as Junior Sportsperson of the Year for the Southern Downs northern region, receiving his award at Tuesday s Australia Day ceremony in Warwick.
The 12-year-old was praised for his swimming success after claiming three gold medals and smashing a 21-year record in the 100m freestyle at state championships in February and March last year.

70MM+ RAIN: Killarney battles wild afternoon storms

From nearly 80mm rainfall in only a few hours to power poles snapped in half, wild weather swept across the Southern Downs on Monday afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s rain gauges recorded huge totals across the region, with 74mm at Killarney and 62mm at Queen Mary Falls coming out on top.
Stanthorpe, Ballandean and Wallangarra all received 30mm to 35mm, though the Warwick area missed out on the heaviest falls with only 17mm.
Killarney resident John Towells said he received 78mm at his place within only a few hours, with the heavy rains bringing the area to life in a way he hadn’t seen in nearly a decade. ....
