John Ritchie Hellewell was sentenced to four years imprisonment in the Dunedin District Court today.
He was arrested by Customs investigators during a search warrant at his home last November, following a referral from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
Hellewell was distributing abuse imagery to overseas users, and operating as an administrator for at least two trading groups.
He d previously been arrested and charged for similar offending in 2016. ....

An Oamaru man who ran an international online child sexual abuse ring has been jailed for four years.
John Ritchie Hellewell, 49, was locked up for 20 months for almost identical crimes at the end of 2016 and Judge Kevin Phillips said he showed a disturbing lack of remorse.
When you were released, you really just got back into it, he said.

A man has been sentenced to four years in jail for exporting, distributing, and possessing child sexual abuse publications and being part of an organised crime group.
John Ritchie Hellewell, 49, from Oamaru, was arrested by Customs investigators during a search warrant at his home in November 2020. It followed a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States, alleging his involvement in exporting and trading the material using a popular social media platform.
Customs says Hellewell was already known to them since they had arrested and charged him for similar offending in 2016. As part of his previous sentence, he was registered as a Child Sex Offender. ....
