Garbage collection exercise begins in Bor Authorities of Bor municipality in Jonglei State have started a campaign to clear heaps of garbage in the town after months without collection due to the floods. Awan Garang, the town’s acting mayor, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that they embarked on the cleanup exercise because the garbage was left uncollected since July. He said the garbage collection will continue until the town is clean. “We started today and will continue for the next five days. We have not collected garbage due to the floods since July. So, our public health department is now clearing the mountains of smelly garbage,” he said. ....
Woman ‘commits’ suicide in Bor A young woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Christmas day in Bor town of Jonglei State, local authorities have said. John Makuei Alier, the Bor Municipality public health deputy director, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the unidentified woman was found dead, hanging from a rope at a deserted house in Bor’s Nigel neighborhood last Friday. “We were informed by the locals about the deceased. When we went there, we found her hanging in a house in Nigel. There were no people in the house. It has been deserted due to the floods. The woman was seen by a passerby who then informed us,” Makuei said. ....
Expired goods impounded in Bor An assortment of expired goods was confiscated during a crackdown at a market in the Jonglei State capital, Bor, authorities have said. Kuol Monykuc Atem, the head of Grades, Standards and Measures Bureau in Jonglei, told Radio Tamazuj that some of the expired food items were confiscated during the exercise carried out at Bor’s Marol market last week. “Daily, we carry out inspections on shops in Bor. So, last week, we confiscated food items like 230 crates of soda and 210 crates of other soft drinks plus other items. We impounded them in a shop within the market. As the town gets dry, we will invite all the relevant government agencies so that the items are destroyed,” Atem said. ....
