New Britain Herald NEW BRITAIN - Wreaths Across America went virtual this year for its annual local holiday ceremony. The national movement honors veterans’ service and sacrifice by placing millions of holiday wreaths on their gravesites across the nation. The local project is managed by the Disabled American Veterans Hardware City Chapter 8, in cooperation with the city and volunteers from local business, non-profit and veterans service organizations. The ceremony took place Saturday, in a scaled down format due to the covid-19 pandemic, broadcast via Facebook Live from Fairview Cemetery. “We are here to remember our fallen United States veterans, to honor those who serve and teach our community, and most importantly our children, the value and cost of freedom,” said Mayor Erin Stewart, the keynote speaker. ....

Stewart available to the public via Facebook Live from Fairview Cemetery. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, public attendance at the event is discouraged. The Wreaths Across America New Britain Planning Committee made the difficult decision recently to both suspend placement of nearly 1,400 holiday wreaths on veteran gravesites at Fairview for this year, and to move this year s ceremony to a virtual format due to the current resurgence of COVID-19.
