Lexington looks at dangerous intersection's future

Lexington Center and the Battle Green area are the heart of town, drawing many drivers every day. But as they enter the area from the north, drivers must navigate one of the Lexington’s most dangerous intersections: Bedford Street and Harrington Street. Locals have been dealing with this notoriously tricky intersection for decades, but why is it so strange, and what can be done to make it safer?
While every intersection is unique, Bedford and Harrington is truly one of a kind, Town Engineer John Livsey said. This is a high-volume intersection, with lots of traffic going through a tight four-way crossing. In addition, the intersection of Hancock and Bedford street lies just a few feet up the road. The two intersections are close enough that the town has grouped them together when studying the area, and the Hancock addition makes the whole confluence stand out from other problematic intersections in town, Livsey said. ....
