can t. this is chief justice roberts writing for the court, but he said it can be upheld under the court s taxing authority. a lot has changed in those 5 1/2 years. so let s bring in john kingsdale, our health care consultant. he is also professor at brown and boston universities. thank you very much for being with us. let me start with your diagnosis on this. is the repeal of the individual mandate a fatal blow to obamacare, a body blow or glancing blow? i have to go with a body blow. it is not fatal. you have to remember that there are about 20 million people newl newly insured and 12 million of those are on medicaid, a couple million are children who can stay on our plans up to the age of 26. and about 6 million are newly insured through the exchanges principally by subsidized coverage. so only the 6 million that would
a million visitors. so, jake, first of all, i m not going to confirm how many enrollments there were yesterday. we ll release those numbers later on in the month. but here s what i think we learned in the massachusetts experience in 2007. john kingsdale who ran that speaks to this eloquently. when people go on to a website to look at insurance products, they two back eight, nine, ten times. they spend 20 minutes or 30 minutes looking at their different options because this isn t an impulse purchase. it s about making sure you find the plan that works best for you. but david, if that s the case, david, if that s the case, why not just share the numbers? the president has talked many times about transparency. and it seems like the white house releases numbers that are good when they want to, and bad ones they hide as much as possible. we don t know how many of those 834 forms are faulty. we don t know how many people, for sure, enrolled in obama care. but you re out there talking abo
as you know, so far, the federal government s obama care website is riddled with lots and lots of technical failures. the president says experts have been called in to get it to work properly, but can it really be fixed? joining us now is john kingsdale, founding director of the massachusetts health connector or romney care, as it was called, who pioneered the marketplace idea used in obama care. he now advises a number of states about their health exchanges. john, thanks very much for coming in. so what do you think? can it be fixed? well, i m sure it can be fixed. the question s really about time. and this is a series of, if you think of this as a stream or a process, the problem that i see is not so much just getting the website, which is the store door, if you will, to open, but then downstream, there are all these connections with hundreds
