For the restaurants on Staten Island, Mother’s Day 2021 turned out to be a spectacular success, say owners. In the wake of relaxed coronavirus restrictions, a return to service at the bar and 75% capacity, the weekend was a lucrative one. It was a far cry from one year ago when dining rooms were closed for business. Bocelli in Grasmere served hundreds of guests to the delight of the staff and general manager, Robert Hanley Jr. He said, “Things continue to improve on my end with Bocelli’s. It’s exciting to be a part of this revitalization. It’s like the Roaring 20′s again, exactly one century later!”

After only a few months in existence, Wynwood Street Eats’ final day of service in Stapleton was in December as New York City restaurants shuttered dining rooms due to the pandemic. But Mike LiDonni formally announced that the brunch-centric spot in Urby will be re-opening on May 5 at 2 p.m. LiDonni said the delay to jump back into business happened at the mercy of other projects like District and The Pizza Parlor, both in Annadale.

Celebrity chefs Dave Pasternack and Vic Rallo have closed their award-winning Hell’s Kitchen restaurant, Esca. The business partners have Staten Island roots with Pastavino, Navy Pier Prime and Navy Pier Taproom in Stapleton’s Urby complex. The pair issued a statement to announce the Manhattan restaurant news. It read, “Following a year of uncertainty surrounding our neighborhood, city, industry, and country, this was not an easy decision. Unfortunately, with the timeline for a return to normalcy still so unclear, this was the only remaining option available to us.”
