HUNDREDS of children will receive gifts tomorrow thanks to the people of Bolton who have pulled together to save this year s annual Bolton Lions toy appeal. Businesses, organisations and individuals from across the borough rallied round and not only did they raise more than £42,000 to buy gift vouchers and toys but also donated gifts making Christmas for 1,571 youngsters of all ages, Ray Stafford, President of Bolton Lions, said: “People have been absolutely magnificent. We could never have guessed that we would have such amazing support – we can’t thank you enough.” The popular appeal has been helping local families at Christmas for the past 37 years. ....
The City of College Station is once again proving they are not fans of college students. A little over a week ago, the City Council voted 6-1 in favor of redefining and expanding âfamily.â The new definition is: âA family is any number of persons occupying in a single dwelling unit, provided that unless all members are (1) related by blood, adoption, guardianship, or marriage, or (2) members are part of a group home for disabled persons, or an authorized caretaker, no such family shall contain more than four (4) persons.â While at first glance, this definition may seem reasonable, itâs not, because who can and cannot live in your home is, in part, restricted by whom the government considers your family. If you want to live in a home occupied by more than four people but all of you are unrelated, youâre out of luck. If this seems like it could be you, I wouldn t be surprised, since most college students who live together are not related ....
After Bryan residents voted in favor of the city offering fiber broadband internet services, officials are delving into research that will help the council decide how it will move forward in the long run. This month, a preliminary broadband design and cost study will be completed, and in January a bilingual broadband survey will go out to residents and businesses, Chief Information Officer Bernie Acre told city council members in a Tuesday workshop meeting. Around February, a broadband feasibility and financial review will be completed, and in April a final study will be presented to Bryan Texas Utilities and then the city council for further direction on what to do. ....
