How well have you been navigating our now over-crowded public spaces and parks? They have certainly received a hammering as we all try to take our daily  exercise close to home. Throughout the land we have seen, almost overnight, local authorities narrow roadways, widen footpaths and create bicycle lanes – innovations that have long been called for.  We have heard more bird song than traffic noise and have taken to our parks like they were the coolest places since Glastonbury.
We have also scrambled for fabled allotments in which to grow our own food and, depending on which state of restrictions apply, have squeezed into front gardens with our permitted number of guests, feet toasting  over firepits and fingers wrapped around hot drinks.  ....

Landscape Institute announces winners of the Transforming the urban landscape competition
Transforming the urban landscape competition – creating a vision for post-COVID-19 streets and spaces. Landscape Institute’s latest international design competition reveals future shape of the high street.
COVID-19 has had a devastating and unprecedented effect on people’s lives, their lifestyles and the places where they live. The ideas entered into the competition provide us with a wealth of new thinking about the future design and management of the public realm.
The competition, which was supported by GreenBlue Urban, Ground Control, Hardscape, Selux and Vestre, attracted 160 student and professional entries from China, Thailand, Israel, Turkey, Denmark, Spain and the UK. ....
