Disaster when people s lives and livelihoods are at stake. mike: well, joe, as you know, i was governor for ten and a half years and worked with fema and worked with you, you were there at fema when we had some of the worst ice storms and tornados so i understand the relationship. now, one of the things i have note heard almost anyone in the news media talk about is the role that fema should be playing. now, i know that the excuse, officially has been well, but with the stafford act, it s dealing with such things as excuse me, natural disasters, but the reality is, fema was very much involved in the aftermath of 9/11, that was not a natural disaster. absolutely, it was, one of the disasters you hope never to deal with again. i was here in new york city for nine months dealing with the cleanup. there was strong leadership in rudy guiliani, the mayor, george pataki the governor of new york. ours was a support role it to two strong leaders and new york had two standing armies as you r ....

we re back with joe albaugh. a lot of excuses. the oil pollution act says that the coast guard will take care of that. you made rever yens to thachl but once again, i want to point out the president of the united states has the power to basically say. here is what i want to have happen. and he can marshal the resources he needs and wants, and i guess the question is this a lack of having managed a crisis that is causing this president problems? i think it s a lacking of leadership knowing what to do and this is about action, more than just words. best thing he s done is put admiral thad adden in charge. but fugate needs to be saddled up. the coast guard s responsibility begins and ends at water s edge. ....
