A man in Ionia, Michigan has been sentenced to 100 hours of community service after pleading no contest to shooting an 84-year-old woman while she advocated against abortion.
Richard Harvey, 74, of Lake Odessa pleaded no contest on Tuesday and was sentenced to two months probation and 100 hours of community service for shooting Joan Jacobsen, 83, of Lake Odessa in the shoulder after an alleged dispute over the Proposal 3 ballot initiative. In addition, Harvey must forfeit his gun and can have no contact with the victim. If he does not meet the terms of the deal, he will spend 60 days in prison.
A Lake Odessa man pleaded no contest on Monday to shooting an 83-year-old woman over a Proposal 3 dispute. Richard Harvey, 74, shot Joan Jacobsen, 83, of Lake Odessa in the shoulder outside Harvey’s home on Bipley Road on Sept. 20, 2022 after Harvey’s wife Sharon Harvey and Jacobsen got into a verbal altercation about Michigan’s Proposal 3, which was set to be on that November’s general election ballot to determine the future of abortion legality.
