New Delhi: The devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic is slowly turning into a horror story in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh.
Days after Bihar’s Buxar district authorities said that at least 71 bodies of suspected COVID-19 victims from the neighbouring eastern UP were washed ashore at the banks of the river Ganga in the downstream Chausa village, several English and Hindi dailies reported that over 2,000 dead bodies in various UP districts were found to be hastily buried or abandoned along the banks of Ganga. ....

Patna high court wanted the government to set up a ‘war-room’ to continuously monitor the crisis.
The Bihar government has placed a net on the Ganga in Ranighat, bordering Uttar Pradesh, to prevent the continued flow of bodies of suspected Covid-19 victims from the other state.
Sanjay Jha, Bihar’s water resources minister tweeted that the last rites of 71 bodies of the victims were performed according to the protocols. “We have advised the UP administration to be vigilant,” he said. “Our district administration is keeping vigil too. Advise all to give respect to those dead.” ....

More scenes out of India horrified the world on Monday after it was reported that dozens of dead bodies had drifted onto the banks of the River Ganges in Chausa village in the Buxar district of the eastern state of Bihar.
Now, authorities have apparently placed a net in the river to catch the corpses of the suspected COVID victims.
On Wednesday, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Bihar state minister of Water Resources (WRD) and Information and Public Relations (IPRD) tweeted an update on the handling of the bodies by the state and introduced the plan to spread a net in order to handle the influx of remains. ....
