They set up their ice fishing shanties and tents outside restaurants for safe and fun outdoor dining. A recently created community organization known as Operation Shantyville has been on the move around the region, setting up ice fishing shanties and deer blinds outside of restaurants, allowing people to enjoy an adventurous twist on outdoor dining while providing some much-needed support for local businesses. ....
âRealize that what makes your hometown great are these small businesses,â said Jimmy Flathau. Right now, many small restaurant businesses are starved of prosperity. To help them survive, Flathau and some friends were inspired by a restaurant in west Michigan. People were ordering take-out and eating in an ice shanty. âI had originally shared it to bay county take-out Facebook page just to kind of get an idea and gauge interest to see if would take off or not,â he said. Oh, and it did. So, he and his friends got to work. âLetâs go to a business, weâll just pick one out downtown Bay City,â Flathau said. ....
