Community Art Show exhibits Aleutian artists' photography, woodworking, and more

The show features work by nearly 30 artists. Stacy Alvarado, a lead curator, said the diversity of local artists has made for a strong exhibit. Locals, tourists and fishermen pack museum in opening of Unalaska's 30th Annual Community Art Show

A wide variety of artwork including metal sculptures, ivory carvings and wood burnings drew a crowd of more than one hundred people to Unalaska’s Museum of the Aleutians for the opening of the 30th Annual Aleutian Arts Council Community Art Show. Community members, local artists, tourists and weathered-in fishermen filed into MOTA’s gallery room to admire the art pieces at the exhibit opening last month. ....

Lucy Miocich


It is with great sadness that the family announces that Lucy Theresa Miocich died peacefully on Thursday July 1st, 2021 at Hogarth Riverview Manor, during rehabilitation from injury.
Lucy was born August 11, 1918 in Fort William, before the end of the Great War and the beginning of the H1N1 influenza pandemic. She grew up in the roaring twenties and Great Depression, coming of age at the dawn of World War II. With fierce determination she pursued her career as a nurse, culminating in a position as Acting Consultant in Public Health Nursing 1968-1970. One of her career achievements was overseeing Polio Vaccination clinics that saved so many children from devastating disabilities. ....
