Gwinnett Schools Accreditation Will Face Special Early Review

(Jim Massara / Patch) GWINNETT COUNTY, GA Prompted by multiple complaints including at least one about the school board the agency responsible for accrediting Gwinnett County s public schools will conduct a special review later this month. The review is scheduled for June 13-16, said Mariama Tyler, spokesperson for accreditation agency Cognia. It will be conducted virtually, Tyler said, with a thorough review of evidence and interviews with administrators, staff, board members and community members to determine whether there are any violations of Cognia standards.

Working with Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale County Health Departments, the college began offering Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccines Friday at the Wellness and Recreation Center in Building F. Starting next week, vaccinations will be offered every Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Aug. 4.

The Douglasville hospital received an A grade in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing how well it protected patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. Leapfrog s latest report was released on Thursday. Leapfrog grades hospitals twice a year, assigning letter grades from A to F based on each hospital s ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

The Gwinnett County facility is one of four in Georgia that Piedmont will buy from HCA Healthcare. The other three are Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville, and Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside in Macon. This is an exciting opportunity for Piedmont, Kevin Brown, president and CEO of Piedmont Healthcare, said in a statement released Monday.
