SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio Local poet Jim Lawless has drawn upon a cache of 1,500 poems he has written over the past 50 years to compile his latest book of poetry his first in six years titled “Family.”
While his first two poetry books covered an array of topics, this time out Lawless has selected works based on his favorite subject, as the title plainly states his family.
Known to some as president of the South Euclid Commission on Aging, Lawless, a 40-year resident of the city, spent his career writing about a variety of things. He covered energy and the environment, housing, transportation, politics and a host of other subjects while reporting for The Plain Dealer from 1978 to 2005. ....

Members of both panels thought each candidate was personable, well-spoken and brought ideas to their discussion. The community panel did not address Pruitt’s police leadership experience; the law enforcement panel thought his lack of management experience in a larger city could be a challenge. ....

Dear Mr. Mayor,
In my first letter on Dec. 8, 2020, I asked, based on my professional knowledge, for caution and to postpone the accelerated appointment of the chief of police nominee, just becoming aware of the U.S. District Court testimony a few hours before the vote. Many residents echoed the same, our voices were disregarded.
In my second letter of Dec. 15, 2020 to you and the council president, several questions were asked and remain unanswered. Some have been addressed through research and the media, but not directly by your office. However, the residents of this community are waiting for some answers. Yes, we understand your HR director has contacted the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs to assist with the search process this time, they declined due to th ....

Dear Mayor Nelson and Edmonds City Council,
I, like so many others, am so saddened to see what’s been going on in Edmonds. I’m sure you didn’t plan on being in this embarassing mess, but the very poor decisions and public comments made by the Mayor and a majority of the council could’ve been completely avoided.
You owe it to your precious community to turn this around as quickly as possible and reinstate Chief Jim Lawless. You need to apologize publicly to him, the police department staff and your community for not doing your due diligence in a serious hiring process and dragging Lawless and the rest of them through it all. ....

EDMONDS, Wash Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson stunned the community Tuesday by announcing he was rescinding the nomination of the man who would ve been the city s first Black police chief.
The news came after a contentious confirmation process that opened racial wounds in the city.
