mark good afternoon and welcome : to new america. i am mark schmitt, i am the director of the political reform program and director of studies for new america. i want to welcome you all to this conversation, which is a joint production of the fellows program here and the political reform program. on the topic of the complexity of black political attitudes and voting behavior in the united states, which is to me a fascinating topic. i know lots of people who delve into the minutia of white voting behavior and the difference by class and age and background but very often treat black voting behavior as a largely undifferentiated block largely because african-americans largely on party aligned at the presidential level, but underneath that, there is an enormous complexity by generation, by forms of political connectedness and so forth. and we have a panel here today that is superbly qualified to address many aspects of this question. i m just going to introduce the organizer of t
